Population and BusinessA recent study by www.Buinessinsider.com.au confirms that by 2013 Shenzhen had a population of 12 million, though it is estimated that there is a population of about 15 million in Shenzhen in 2015. The population of Shenzhen from 1979 to 2011 has got 33325% bigger or has become 333.25 times the it used to be. Though over the 32 year period, the population of people with residential housing has only grown 8 times itself, the population of people without residential housing in Shenzhen has increased by 5192 times itself! This is because over the years, there have been many immigrants leading the the increase of residents but a major increase in job opportunities resulting in such a huge increase in the people who come to Shenzhen for work and then leave on either weekends or after a work day. Business is the biggest pull factor as Shenzhen is classified as a Special Economic Zone which means that they have more independence then the rest of China when it comes to international trade and most of the economic activities is marketing and exportation. It also has more flexible Government measures and special Economic policies and rules. For these reasons, having a business in an SEZ like Shenzhen is extremely appealing to business owners and also mean more job opportunities in the city. There are also many schools in Shenzhen for children and a few for adults. Shenzhen is a First World country so the reasons why people would leave would be those of personal choice. The main push factor in Shenzhen would be raising a family. Though Shenzhen has many schools of all kinds, if a family was living in Shenzhen permanently, they might move out to raise their family in a more quiet and less built up place then Shenzhen. Also, most local people in Shenzhen do not speak English. Some people move out of Shenzhen because though there are a few colleges, there are no Universities in Shenzhen. This means many young adults would be moving out to find study. |
With a population of approximately 15 million and an area of 2,050km2, Shenzhen has a density of 7317 people in every km2. Of course, people are not living evenly among Shenzhen. Google maps shows that hotels, motels and residential living areas such as appartments tend to group meaning that most people live where there are red dots on the map. They represent the most used popular hotels and motels were people either stay in to live or stay in while stay in working in Shenzhen.
